Everything You Wanted To Know About PhillipCapital

Here at Seedly, we’re always talking about the importance of saving and investing for the future.

But have you ever wondered who is responsible for making share trading possible for retail investors like you and me? Besides government institutions like the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) that is.

Today, we’re taking a look at THE pioneer of online share trading in Singapore. It’s also the company which offers a suite of award-winning trading platforms that all Singaporean investors would be familiar with (hint: you probably know the platform as POEMS).

Yep, it’s PhillipCapital.

PhillipCapital At Seedly Personal Festival 2019

If this is the first time you’re hearing about PhillipCapital, remember these guys at our most recent Seedly Personal Finance Festival 2019?

Just in case some of you were too shy to approach them with your questions, we decided to put this together so you can have a better understanding of what PhillipCapital is all about.

Some History And Fun Facts

The history of PhillipCapital is littered with a litany of remarkable firsts.

On 18 Jun 1975, PhillipCapital, then known as Phillip Securities, first started as an office on… you guessed it. Phillip Street.

1996 was another momentous year for Phillip Securities when they first launched POEMS (Phillip’s Online Electronic Mart System). It was the company’s solution to meet the online trading needs of Singaporeans and they were perhaps the first in Asia to launch online trading back then.

Fast forward to 2003, PhillipCapital was the first to offer Contracts For Differences (CFDs) to local customers in Singapore.

In 2016, the company launched Asia-Pacific’s first-ever REIT ETF in Singapore.

The next year, the company launched the world’s first bonds trading mobile application, Phillip Bonds.

In 2018, PhillipCapital launched Lion-Phillip S-REIT ETF, the first exchange-traded fund in the world that invests purely in Singapore REITs.

Today, PhillipCapital has grown into an integrated Asian financial house with a global presence.

There are many other PhillipCapital products and services which you can also utilise in your investment journey. Here are just some that might interest you:

Phillip SMART Portfolio is an investment service that matches a best-fit portfolio with your online risk analysis.

You simply complete a 12 question risk assessment online, input how much you would like to invest (the minimum starting amount is S$5,000) in order to understand what kind of portfolio you would be investing in.

After that, you can sign-up and open an account online in order to start investing with no upfront fee, brokerage, or platform fees either.

2. Phillip SMART Park

Have spare cash in a bank account that could potentially be enjoying higher interest rates?

Phillip SMART Park manages your spare cash into the largest retail SGD money market fund in the market (based on Total Net Assets). There’s no lock-in period for your deposits, and you can enjoy more than 1% interest (correct as of writing) now for deposits in both SGD and USD.

Best of all, there’re no sales charges or administrative fees levied either.

3. Phillip Share Builders Plan

Source: PhillipCapital

PhillipCapital’s Share Builders Plan is a Regular Savings Plan (RSP) that is perfect for novice investors.

Why? Because it’s a consistent and disciplined means of monthly investment that provides you access to stocks at a low cost.

The regular fixed dollar amount investment plan enables you to start with as little as S$100 every month and employs an investment method known as dollar-cost averaging to build your portfolio. This method is especially useful in hedging against market volatility. Meaning you don’t need to time your entry into the market – something that is almost impossible to do.

If you sign up for a NEW Share Builders Plan and invest in Phillip SING Income ETF, from now till 30 Jun 2019, you’ll receive up to $100 worth of bonus. Check out their terms and conditions, to find out more!

And if you’re a parent who wants to start a NEW Junior Share Builders Plan for your little ones, you’ll get to enjoy 12 months handling fee rebates if you sign up for one. Similarly, check out their promotion’s terms and conditions to find out more!

So if you’re thinking of investing in your child’s future, this seems like a good place to start.
