Best Japanese Buffets: Unlimited Sashimi & Wagyu Beef To Eat Your Money's Worth

profileXue Miao

Singaporeans are big fans of all things Japan.

From their anime and manga, hot springs to departmental stores like Daiso and Don Don Donki.

And the best of them all…

Japanese food.

Source: Giphy

And how do you get to have the best of everything?

Japanese buffets.

Well, I’ve always loved Japanese buffets.

Besides having a wide range of sushi, sashimi and handrolls to feast on, it is a cuisine where the price tag of buffets seemed justifiable.

Especially if you’re a sashimi or wagyu beef fan…

Those ala-carte plates of goodness DO NOT come cheap.

When it comes to buffets, the best way to eat your money’s worth is to whack the priciest dishes first.

And what better way than to go for buffets with a free-flow of sashimi or wagyu beef, or even better… both?

How Much To Eat Then Worth It Ah?

Since we’re Seedly and we’re all about making smarter personal finance decisions and maximising our dollar, we might be wondering…

Then I eat how much then considered worth it ah? 🤔

Now, imagine you’re Tim.

Tim loves Japan. And he loves stretching his dollars as well.

Let’s try to estimate the costs of these dishes in a typical restaurant:

DishTypical Ala Carte Price at Restaurants
Sashimi (Salmon)~$1.50/slice
Sashimi (Others: Salmon Belly, Yellowtail etc.)~$2.50/slice
Japanese Wagyu (80g, approx. 5 slices)~$33.80
Australian Wagyu (80g, approx. 5 slices)~$24.80

Imagine Tim is at a buffet with both wagyu & sashimi, and he’s there to whack the expensive stuff.

Since the cost per slice of wagyu beef is higher, he might prioritise his beef intake first.

Given the average price of a buffet (with both wagyu & sashimi) is about $80

DishQuantityCost
Japanese Wagyu (80g, approx. 5 slices)2$67.60
Australian Wagyu (80g, approx. 5 slices)1$24.80
Sashimi (Others: Salmon Belly, Yellowtail etc.)4$10
Sashimi (Salmon)2$3
Total Cost$105.40

Given how expensive good quality wagyu beef is, a typical ala carte bill can easily hit $100 with just a few plates of wagyu beef.

So… whack your wagyu beef please.

How about places with just sashimi?

For such buffets, prices average at about $45.

DishQuantityCost
Sashimi (Others: Salmon Belly, Yellowtail etc.)15$37.50
Sashimi (Salmon)10$15
Total Cost$52.50

25 slices of sashimi might make your meal well worth it.

But at the risk of getting mercury poisoning…

We suggest mixing it up with some good handrolls, sushi and cooked dishes to make your money’s worth.
