Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic travelling out of Singapore for leisure has become prohibitive and stupidly expensive.
But, all is not lost. We can make the most out of it and experience our country as tourists in our own land.
And as English writer and philosopher G.K. Chesterton would attest:
āThe whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on oneās own country as a foreign landā
In other words, making our own home foreign is not always about travelling to new places. Instead, it involves opening our minds and seeing the world in a whole new way.
The best part? You will be given S$100 worth ofĀ SingapoRediscovers Vouchers to explore and experience Singapore in a whole new light if you are an eligible Singaporean Citizen.
These vouchers can be used atĀ 178 hotels, 39 attractions, and 91 local tour companies.
If need any ideas on how to spend your SingapoRediscover vouchers, we have put together a compilation of some of the best local tour experiences under $60 in Singapore for you to consider.
Why $60? So you won’t have to fork out any cash and try more things of course!

But first a bit of history. Haw Par Villa is a theme park located on a hill in Pasir Panjang.
The theme park was painstakingly built by Myanmar-born businessman Aw Boon Haw for his brother and was first named Tiger Balm Gardens after the famous Tiger Balm medical ointment made by Haw Par Corporation LtdĀ (SGX:Ā H02).

These houses are colonial bungalows that were built between the late 1800s right up to the 1930s.
On this Black & White Houses Neighbourhood Stroll tour by Jane’s Singapore Tours, you will be brought around these majestic houses and educated about the rich history behind these houses as well.

8. Trishaw Uncle Guided Tours ($20/pax)
After the Japanese Occupation in Singapore (1942 – 1945) ended the Trishaw became one of the most commonly used modes of public transportation.
However, during the mid-1950s, the Trishaw fell out of favour. Subsequently, towards the late 1970s, there were fewer and fewer trishaw riders, with trishaw riding became a dying trade.
Today, the majority of trishaw riders are involved in the tourism industry.
Personally, I love these types of tours as the Trishaw Uncles are a rich depository of our country’s history.
For just $20, you get to experience a nostalgic journey down Singapore’s streets and alleyways on a trishaw.
In a sense, you can also learn more about how Singapore changed from the past till now.
Choose between four distinct routes: the Singapore River, Little India, Kampong Glam or Chinatown, and learn more about Singapore’s history through the view of the trishaw riders.
Do check it out!

The hour-long tour takes you around Marina Bay and the Civic District, with half an hour spent on land and the other half in the water.
This hour-long adventure starts with a city tour of the historic Civic District, before splashing into the water and swimming off like a duck for a picturesque harbour tour.
