Which Grab Rides Would Have an Increase in Base Fares?
This $1 increase will apply for all Grab rides, excluding Standard Taxi (metered fares), GrabHitch, and GrabCoach.
Why Is Grab Increasing the Fares?
As we are currently in Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), there has been an increase in the restriction of activities which has resulted in a fall in demand for rides.
In order to safeguard the interests of the drivers as well as to keep this livelihood viable, a revision of fare structure has to be implemented.
This allows Grab’s transport fares to keep up with the drivers’ rising costs as well, including petrol and car maintenance.
To help the drivers, Grab will not be charging any commissions for this $1 for the month of June (1 to 30 Jun 2021).
This means that drivers will get to keep the full $1 for the whole of June.
Grab typically takes about 20% commission of each fare.
