Which Grab Rides Would Have an Increase in Base Fares?

This $1 increase will apply for all Grab rides, excluding Standard Taxi (metered fares), GrabHitch, and GrabCoach.

Why Is Grab Increasing the Fares?

As we are currently in Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), there has been an increase in the restriction of activities which has resulted in a fall in demand for rides.

In order to safeguard the interests of the drivers as well as to keep this livelihood viable, a revision of fare structure has to be implemented.

This allows Grab’s transport fares to keep up with the drivers’ rising costs as well, including petrol and car maintenance.

To help the drivers, Grab will not be charging any commissions for this $1 for the month of June (1 to 30 Jun 2021).

This means that drivers will get to keep the full $1 for the whole of June.

Grab typically takes about 20% commission of each fare.

Current Measures Implemented by Grab for Their Driver-Partners

Being on the roads during this period of uncertainty can be very stressful.

To address this, Grab has implemented a few measures to safeguard the wellbeing of their driver-partners.

Initiatives by Grab
Rental rebates (up to S$45 per week) to assist with reducing fixed costs during this period
Increased fuel discounts through Grab-negotiated partnerships
Delivery opportunities on Grab platform to help supplement earnings
Training & career support opportunities via GrabAcademy
Quarantine Order and Hospitalisation Income Support and Rental Waiver
Complimentary Driver Care Protection and Vaccination cover by Chubb Insurance
Enhanced Prolonged Medical Leave Insurance
GrabProtect hygiene kits

$1 Rebate for Grab Users During Transition Period

If you’re a frequent Grab user, this piece of news might have felt like a gloomy little cloud over your head.

On a lighter note, you might be pleased to know that this increase in $1 will be rebated into your pockets for peak hour rides from 1 to 14 June 2021.

This is to help users to adjust to this new fare structure.

To enjoy this, simply use the promo code ‘STAYSAFE’ during this period, valid for pick-ups from 7am to 9am, 5pm to 7pm on weekdays, and 11am to 6pm on weekends.

  • Redemptions are capped at first 75,000
  • Limited to 2 redemptions per day per user
  • Valid for payment with GrabPay and GrabPay credits
  • Excludes GrabHitch, Standard Taxi, GrabResponse and GrabSHN

Let’s hope that this initiative will help our fellow drivers, along with the recent top-up to the COVID-19 Driver Relief Fund.
