PSA: Mother’s Day is happening tomorrow (9 May 2021)!

In honour of this day, I wanted to write about how much our mothers sacrifice for us on daily basis.

In my opinion, what our mothers do to care for us is invaluable and hard to quantify.

But, since you are reading something on Seedly, we can’t help but take up the challenge to translate what our mothers do into numbers so we can better appreciate what they do for us.

Because more often than not, (I’m guilty of this too) we take what they do for granted.

To estimate this, we looked at the salaries of the more common jobs that our mothers take on to care for us.

We took into consideration roles like being a housekeeper, private chef, childcare teacher, laundry attendant, and even a healthcare assistant when we fall sick.

Here is what we found.

TL;DR: Mother’s Day Singapore 2021: How Much is The Work That a Mother Does Worth?

RoleAverage Annual Salary in Singapore
Housekeeper$24,461
Private Chef$70,483
Childcare Teacher$37,764
Laundry Attendant$23,430
Healthcare Assistant$24,887
Total~$181,000

This works out to about $15,000 a month!

1. Housekeeper Role Salary Singapore ($24,461Ā per Year)

At home, our mothers often take on the role of a housekeeper or a domestic cleaner as some would call it to care for us.

Their job includes doing household chores, like cleaning the floors, toilets, windows and more.

Not to mention having to upkeep the house and tend to all the household needs.

Indeed Singapore estimates that the average salary for a housekeeper is $24,461Ā per year in Singapore.

2. Private Chef Salary Singapore ($70,483 per Year)

On top of keeping the house clean, our mothers take on the role of a private chef.

For the uninitiated, private chefs whip up personalised meals that cater to the tastebuds and dietary restrictions of the household.

Although not every private chef has the same set of duties, private chefs are in charge of doing the groceries, preparing the ingredients cooking and cleaning up after.

Indeed Singapore estimates that the average salary for a private chef is $70,483 per year in Singapore.

3. Childcare Teacher Salary Singapore ($37,764 Per Year)

On top of cooking and cleaning for us. Our mothers often take on the role of childcare teacher as well.

For context, childcare teachers are tasked with the responsibility to take care of children by creating a safe and loving environment that is conducive to growth and learning.

To achieve this, they provide children with a consistent daily routine by planning and carrying out educational and recreational activities for children.

Indeed Singapore estimates that the average salary for a childcare teacher is $37,764Ā per year in Singapore.

4. Laundry Attendant Salary Singapore ($23,430 per Year)

Also, some mothers also do the laundry at home. This means that they do the job of a laundry attendant.

Typically, a laundry attendant’s responsibilities include washing, drying and folding clothes.

Laundry attendants in hotels working in hotels for example are in charge of washing towels and sheets, as well as the personal items of guests.

Indeed Singapore estimates that the average salary for a laundry attendant is $23,430Ā per year in Singapore.

5. Healthcare Assistant Salary Singapore ($24,887 per Year)

Last but not least, mothers take care of us when we fall sick. This would mean that they take on the role of a healthcare assistant in Singapore.

Generally, healthcare assistants are responsible for providing careĀ to patients in hospitals or otherĀ medicalĀ settings.Ā They work closely with doctors to ensure the patients’ comfort and safety.

This is essentially what our mothers do for us when we fall sick except that the work is done in a home setting.

Closing Thoughts

Sometimes, we might be guilty of taking for granted the work that our mothers do for us on a daily basis.

But, as you can tell from the article, the work they do is worth quite a bit (~$180,000 a year) if they were doing it outside the house.

Also, these are just the most common roles that our mothers take on. I am sure that our mothers contribute quite a bit more to the home as well.

Aren’t mothers great?
