Chinese New Year (CNY) is just around the corner!
And with that comes the tradition of giving out red packets to wish our friends and family an auspicious new year.
In the spirit of embracing both old and new, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) encourages us to use “Fit-for-Gifting” (Fit) notes or e-hong baos.
MAS will no longer produce and issue “Good-As-New” (GAN) dollar notes in 2024 for Chinese New Year.
As such, we can only get New or Fit notes.
If you still prefer handing physical red packets to your relatives, here are some things you have to take note of when you want to exchange or order New/Fit notes online this CNY.

- To withdraw Fit or New notes for CNY, you have to pre-book an appointment from 17 Jan 2024 at the respective DBS, OCBC, UOB, CIMB, Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), or Maybank’s online reservation websites before heading to the bank.
Only DBS, OCBC, and UOB offer both Fit and new notes, while CIMB, SCB and Maybank offer only New notes. - The exception to this is for those aged 60 and above or those with disabilities, as they will get to exchange Fit and New Notes at DBS, OCBC, UOB, CIMB, SCB, Maybank and other banks. You are also advised to pre-book before going down.
- To get New/Fit notes without pre-booking, there will be designated/pop-up ATMs disbursing them at various locations across Singapore from 24 Jan 2024
- Notes are disbursed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

DBS CNY 2024 New Notes Reservation & Collection
For DBS/POSB, CNY Fit or New notes will be available for online reservation and collection from:

Do note that Window 1 is has been fully reserved and *collection periods exclude Saturday and Sunday. You MUST make a reservation before heading down to the bank to collect new notes.
Here’s how to make a reservation:
Step 1: Visit DBS’s secured online notes reservation site.
Step 2: Enter your NRIC/Passport Number/Malaysian NRIC, the last 4 digits of your ATM/Debit/Credit Card number, and/or PIN (For Wealth clients only).
Note: Never disclose your digibank User ID, PIN & One-Time Password (OTP) to anyone. DBS will never request for your PIN, password or OTP.Step 3: Select your preferred branch and key in your reservation Date and Time
Step 4: Indicate the number of DBS QR Gift Pack(s) and the desired quantity of notes for $2, $10, $50 (notes denomination).
Step 5: Confirm your details and selection. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours upon submitting your request.
Step 6: Collect your notes at the selected branch during the specified date and time.
Each customer is only entitled to one reservation slot for online reservations throughout the CNY period.
You will also not be able to amend your booking after the reservation is made.
Reservations will be cancelled if the reserved notes are not collected on the selected date and location.
The maximum amount for Chinese New Year each customer can change is $1,000 for New notes and $1,200 for Fit notes in these denominations:
DBS CNY 2024 New Notes Pop-up ATMs
DBS pop-up and selected ATMs dispensing Fit and New notes will be available from next Wednesday, 24 Jan 2024, to Thursday, 8 Feb 2024, from 10am to 10pm daily and on Friday (9 Feb 2024) from 10am to 1pm.
These pop-up ATMs are also customised to dispense note denominations of $2, $10, and $50 in the following packages:
- $100 ($2 in 50 pieces)
- $300 ($10 in 30 pieces)
- $500 ($50 in 10 pieces).
Do note that each customer is limited to a maximum of three withdrawals (new and/or Fit notes) across DBS’s islandwide pop-up ATMs throughout the campaign period. Withdrawal at pop-up ATMs can only be made using a DBS/POSB bank card.

This service is only available for customers aged above 60 years old or people with disabilities over the counters at DBS/POSB branches, DBS Treasures Centres and DBS Treasures Private Client Centres, subject to exchange limits. UOB CNY 2024 New Notes Reservation & Collection
For those awaiting the UOB CNY Fit or New notes exchange, you can begin reserving and collecting notes from:

Note that where online slots are available for reservation, the earliest collection date available for selection would be two business days forward (excluding Sundays). The last day for online reservation has been scheduled for 6 February 2024. However, should all reservation slots be fully taken up before 6 February 2024, the online reservation portal will close without prior notice to customers.
Customers can access the new notes reservation form via uob.com.sg/lny or UOB Personal Internet Banking or the UOB TMRW App by following these steps:
Step 1: Key in name, last 5 alphanumeric characters of NRIC/PP and mobile number
Step 2: Select notes denominations
Step 3: Select preferred branch, date and time of appointment
Step 4: Click on ‘Send OTP’ and key in a valid OTP sent to your mobile number
Step 5: Click on ‘Verify OTP’
Step 6: There will be a confirmation page shown as well as an SMS sent to your mobile number upon a successful reservation.
The online reservation slots are available on a first-come-first-serve basis, which means that you gotta be quick if you would like to select your preferred branch, date, or time slot.
Do note that:
- Amendments cannot be made once the reservation order has been submitted and confirmed. Kindly ensure that all your details on the form are correct before submitting the request. Upon reaching the reservation form, customers are given 10 minutes to complete and submit the form.
- Each customer is allowed only one successful reservation for new and fit-for-gifting notes, respectively. Should there be duplicate or multiple reservations, only the latest successful request will be accepted.
- Please note that collection must be done in person with NRIC or passport for verification purposes. The exchange may be made with cash or by debiting from the customer’s current or savings account with the Bank on the date of collection.
Also, each customer is allowed a maximum limit of up to the following amounts and denominations for UOB:
- New/Fit $2 notes: $200 only
- New/Fit $10 notes: Up to $500 (in multiples of $100)
- New/Fit $50 notes: Up to $500 (in multiples of $100)
- Maximum amount: Up to $1,200 only
UOB CNY New Notes 2024 ATMs

These pop-up ATMs are also customised to dispense note denominations of $2, $10, and $50.

Collection Information

FYI: For Maybank branch walk-ins, new/fit notes exchange at the outlets will begin on Wednesday (24 Jan 2024) and end on Friday (9 Jan 2024). This service is only available for customers aged above 60 years old or people with disabilities.

According to SCB, here is how you get your new notes:
Step 1: Log in to SC Mobile (please ensure you have updated your app to the latest version).
Step 2: Click on the reservation banner to book a reservation slot for new notes.
Step 3: Select your preferred note denominations for exchange:
- $2 (capped at $400 in bundles of $200)
- $5 (capped at $400)
- $10 (capped at $1,000)
- $50 (capped at $2,000).
Step 4: Select your preferred collection date (between 24 Jan to 8 Feb 2024), time and branch location.
Step 5: Verify your details and confirm your selection. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting your request.
Step 6: Clients aged 60 and above or clients who require special assistance can visit our branches for new banknotes exchange without prior reservation from 24 January to 8 February 2024 (subject to availability).
If you have successfully reserved your new banknotes online, you may proceed for collection at your selected branch during the specified date and time between 24 January and 8 February 2024. If you have missed your collection, your reservation request will automatically be cancelled. SCB seeks your cooperation to collect your new banknotes in an orderly manner.

“(GAN) Good-As-New” Notes and “(Fit) Fit-for-Gifting” Notes Explained
In an effort to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly, MAS will stop producing and issuing the “Good-As-New” S$2 notes from CNY 2023 onwards.
For the uninitiated, GAN notes are new notes deposited and returned to MAS right after the CNY and processed twice. Only the notes that are of very good quality are re-issued as GAN notes the following year.
This process generates additional carbon emissions comparable to the emissions for powering 32 four-room government-built flats yearly!
Meanwhile, Fit notes are used currency notes that are generally clean and of suitable quality for recirculation, including for festive gifting:
