Chinese New Year (CNY) is gonna be a rough one this year…

With every household limited to only five unique visitors, it has put a damper on visiting plans this CNY.

Not gonna lie, even my own family is thinking of calling off visiting this year.

Honestly, being cooped up at home can be kinda boring, and for those of you who don’t celebrate CNY, everywhere feels like a ghost town with all the CNY closures.

But readers rejoice!

For we are here to tell you about some of the fun places that are still open during CNY, so keep reading!

TL;DR: Places to Go This CNY Holiday

Despite all the closures and reduced hustle and bustle during this CNY, it’s not impossible to find something to do.

As eight is an auspicious number during CNY, we have listed down eight places for you to go this CNY holiday!

So gather your family members, call up your friends who are not visiting.

It’s time to go out and have fun!

1. Check out The Beautiful Displays at Gardens by the Bay

CNY this year is shaping up to be a fun event at Gardens by the Bay!

You can hop on inside the Flower Dome to check out the beautiful flowers displayed at Dahlia Dreams.

A number of CNY themed art installations, such as a big prosperity bag with a cute tiger and Chinese paintings depicting symbolic plants can also be found inside the Flower Dome!

With so many beautiful displays, make sure you remember your selfie stick so you can capture a nice memory of yourself with the place!

2. Look at Furnishing Ideas at IKEA

Although you’re supposed to shop for your new furniture before CNY, who says you can’t visit a furniture store during CNY itself?

Compared to the usual days where it is always crowded, CNY can be an ideal time to take a look at furnishing ideas!

As an added bonus, who could resist not going to the Swedish restaurant and chomping down on a plate full of their famous meatballs?

Just don’t get too carried away and make too many impulse purchases. 😉

3. Enjoy a Simple Picnic at a Park

Singapore is such a busy city, sometimes you just gotta take a break and be one with nature!

Well, if the tickets are too expensive for the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay, here’s a more budget-friendly option to consider:

Prepare a basket full of food and bring your family over to a picnic at any park you like!

East Coast and West Coast Park, Fort Canning Park, Pasir Ris Park, just to name a few.

You can even pack a nice tent and some cushions to give your family an unforgettable glamping experience, here’s how you can do it!

4. Have an Aus-fish-cious Time at S.E.A. Aquarium

Tired of the usual activities during CNY? How about making it a fun “sea”-N-Y event?

Lame puns aside, the S.E.A. Aquarium is hosting its Spring in the Sea event, where they will be featuring five different auspicious sea animals.

If you are one of the lucky few early people, you can even redeem a nice little gift when you take a picture with either one of the animals!

Curious what each of these animals symbolises? Feel free to check out the event at the S.E.A. Aquarium, which runs all the way till 15 February 2022.

5. Learn More About Local Chinese Culture at The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

There’s no better way to enjoy the CNY break than to learn about the Chinese culture in Singapore!

The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is hosting multiple exhibitions celebrating CNY and what differentiates Singaporean Chinese culture from that in other parts of the globe.

Welcome CNY with the cute mascot, Ang Ku Kueh Girl, take a deeper look into the various local Chinese dialects and their different cultures.

With so many fun and interesting things to learn, the SCCC will be a great place to go this CNY!

6. Stay Indoors on a Staycation

Prefer to spend your time with your loved ones indoors?

Time to book yourself a nice staycation for a short getaway from your stressful daily life!

Maybe you like a simple cosy room to stay in, just catching some TV or chilling with your loved ones.

Or you can opt for some interesting themed hotel rooms, where you can get a unique experience that you can never get by just staying home!

Ideal for families or couples who are not celebrating CNY, remember to book your reservations in advance!

7. Take Part in Family Workshops at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall

I’m a fan of Marvel’s Avengers, so you can imagine how excited I was when I saw the displays at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.

Welcome CNY with an exhibition filled with traditional Chinese style art, along with the striking red CNY decorations.

Besides the exhibitions, the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall is also hosting all sorts of workshops for families to participate in.

Fancy learning how to make a Chinese Lantern? or interested in Lion Dance?

Time to head over and make some good memories with your family here now!

8. Let the Inner Child Run Free at Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore (USS) is also celebrating CNY this year!

Enjoy the festive season with bright cherry blossoms and gold ingots decorating the place, usher in the year of the tiger with Master Tigress from Kung Fu Panda.

Sign up for their Tang Yuan making workshop and enjoy a sweet (and delicious) moment with your family!

With fun things to enjoy for all ages, why not bring your family to USS this CNY?
