Ultimate Price List for Taiwan Food Festival: Ningxia Night Market at Sentosa. How Much Should You Expect to Spend?

ā—

I’m a big fan of fried chicken.

BIG FAN.

Especially the fried chicken cutlets sold in Taiwan night markets which are crispy, have just the right amount of bite and are always ridiculously over-sized.

And guess what?

They’re recreatingĀ Ningxia Night MarketĀ at Sentosa.

Source: Giphy

Yep.

You read right.

From 16 January to 9 February 2020, a miniature version of the ever-popular Ningxia Night Market (宁夏夜åø‚) will be recreated at Sentosa’s Siloso Point as part of the Asian Night Market: Taiwan Food Festival.

So… is it worth going?

And how much is it going to cost if you tried all the signature Taiwanese night market snacks?

(Hint: it’s close to the price of return air tickets to Taipei)

Like me.

This is probably the BIGGEST reason why you’re visiting this festival.

Source: Apollo Entertainment Media

FYI: in order to stay true to the Taiwanese ambience of the festival grounds, the overhead signs of the stalls are all in Mandarin ā€” less the ancillary ones like ‘Top-Up Station’ and ‘Drinks’.

This might be a problem for the jiak kantang folks or festival-goers who can’t read and understand Mandarin…

Relax.

The menus are in Mandarin AND English.

But just in case, I’ve listed the stall numbers as well as the English description of the overhead signs for your reference.

You’re welcome, bruv.

So… What’s Good There?

TBH, the options are pretty pricey.

But hey, you’re here to get a taste of Taiwan right?

If anything, it’s probably a good idea to go for theĀ signature Taiwan night market snacks (some of them are big names back in Ningxia) like:

  • Egg-Bombed Scallion Pancake ($8)
  • Oyster Mee Sua ($12)
  • Oyster Omelette ($10)
  • Braised Pork Rice ($10)
  • Liu Hao Store Smelly Tofu ($12)
  • Flaming Beef Cubes ($14)
  • Fried Squid ($12)
  • Scallion Pancake ($6)
  • Taiwanese Sausage with Glutinous Rice ($10)
  • Zheng Li Braised Beef Noodles ($10)
  • Papaya Milkshake King Papaya Milkshake ($6)
  • Brown Sugar Milk Tea ($6)
  • Fun Sun G Fried Chicken ($12) and Crispy Salted Chicken ($10)

By the way, the line for FUN SUN G’s fried chicken is ridiculous.

Not pictured: Me laughing at the crowd while enjoying my fried chicken cutlet

I don’t have a picture of mine as I forgot to take a picture before finishing it…

But here’s what it looks like in all its glory:

Source: @__sy_g | Instagram

Oh, and if you’re wondering if I ordered the entire list of food which I listed earlier…

Don’t siao.

That was what a group of three girls ā€” who looked like they knew what they were doing, food-wise ā€” ordered when I asked them forĀ  their recommendations.

According to my price list, that cost them aĀ grand total of $135.

Which is about $50 shy of a return air ticket to Taipei…

Okay lah.

Technically, three return air tickets to Taipei would have been way more expensive.

Taiwan Food Festival Food Promotions

Don’t have a single dime on you?

Relax.

This is aĀ cashless eventĀ so the vendors accept:

  • AliPay
  • Apple Pay
  • EZ-Link
  • MasterCard
  • Samsung Pay
  • Visa, and
  • WeChat Pay

I’d recommend paying with MasterCard though, as you can enjoy 10% off your food and beverage purchases at participating outlets.

Also, wink wink GrabPay fans with GrabPay MasterCard wink wink.

FYI: if you spend $40 on the same day (which is quite likely if you visit with a group of friends), you can combine your receipts and redeem a $2 Asian Night Market voucher that you can use immediately.

If you’ve got a Sentosa Islander orĀ NTUC membership, you can redeem an $8 voucher for food.

And if you’ve got a Civil Service Club or SAFRA membership, you can redeem $8 voucher for drinks.

Performances at Asian Night Market: Taiwan Food Festival

Once you get your food, you’ll want to make your way to Zone 2.

Pictured above: People enjoying their food and live music

Because that’s where you can enjoy live performances and acts by the various talents hired by the organisers.

Which was a nice touch.

Every night from 5pm to 10:30pm, from 16 January to 9 February 2020.

Note: the festival will be closed on 20 to 22 January.

Where Is Asian Night Market: Taiwan Food Festival?

The night market is located at Ningxia Road, between Minsheng West Road and the Taipei Circle at Nanjing West Road…

I kid.

As mentioned earlier, this mini version of Ningxia Market is at Siloso Beach, Sentosa.

It stretches all the way to Siloso Beach as well.

How to Get to Asian Night Market: Taiwan Food Festival?

There are a couple of ways to get there.

Budget: Via Public Transport

Alight at Harbour Front MRT station and take the Sentosa Express Monorail to Beach Station.

From there, you can either take Bus A to Siloso Point.

Or take the complimentary shuttle bus (pick-up at berth 4) to Siloso Point
