The Ultimate Guide To Wedding Florist Rates

profileKenneth Fong

●

After my sister confirmed her wedding date and venue, my wife’s first question was, “What about the flowers leh?”

.

.

.

If you don’t already know, my significant other’s a bit of an anthophile and phytophile mix (read: lover of flowers and plants).

Case in point, here’s what I look at, every morning on my way out of the house.

Pictured above: Plants everywhere.

K lah… I’m not complaining. It is soothing to look at and be around greenery.

And really, what’s a wedding without flowers?

When it comes to flowers, especially fresh ones, they can really add to the cost of a wedding. Especially if you go all out with the flowers and styling in order to transform your venue into something that wouldn’t look out of place in a Disney movie.

I mean, just look at this:

Source: @medkarlek.inc | Instagram

That’s really pretty huh? The flowers are by a talented husband and wife team, Bloomen.co, while the styling was done by the inimitable Med KĂ€rlek Inc.

I can only imagine what the conversation between the bride and groom must’ve been like to bring this fairytale-esque wedding venue to life.

Pictured above: hi Disney, please don’t sue me

Sure. Most wedding venues come with some sort of flower arrangement included (like maybe table centrepieces for the VIP table and aisle flower stands).

But if you want your venue to look like what I just showed you… you’re gonna need to engage a wedding florist to do that. Oh, plus the bridal bouquet and boutonniere for the groom leh? Those confirm need to get from a wedding florist.

Disclaimer: this article is non-sponsored and basically a compilation of florists who do weddings. The prices listed are a ballpark estimate because there are many factors which will affect the final price of how much you’ll spend on wedding flowers.

TL;DR: How Much Does A Wedding Florist Cost?

It’s hard to pin down how much a wedding florist would cost because it really depends on the extent of your customisation and floral needs.

To simplify things, I’m only going to be looking at creations which involve fresh flowers, and I’ve also narrowed it down to the four most common wedding floral decorations and needs that most couples would want for their wedding:

  • Bridal bouquets start from $150
  • Groom’s boutonnieres usually come complimentary with a purchase of a bridal bouquet OR start from $18
  • Floral arches start from $350 for a simple one
  • Reception table centrepieces start from

Naturally, the more specific you are when it comes to the type of flowers used, or the more elaborate your designs are, the more expensive the entire affair would be.

And as always, once you’re sure about the wedding florist you would like to engage, ask about their list of preferred partners to see if you can score better packages and rates.

What Are Some Factors Affecting The Price Of A Wedding Florist?

It’s completely normal for your jaw to drop when your florist hands you the quotation for how much it’ll cost to transform your wedding venue into your ideal floral wonderland.

And this is especially so if you don’t purchase flowers regularly (I can already imagine my wife shaking her head in disapproval) or aren’t in the industry.

Here’re a few factors that affect the cost of wedding floral decorations:

Type Of Flowers And Their Availability

The flowers that are used in a wedding are heavily dependent on the season.

My wife, for example, loves peonies.

And unfortunately for our wedding budget, peonies cost more than a rose because they are more difficult to grow. The fact that they are difficult to grow also means that there’re lesser quantities available. So if demand outweighs supply, you can imagine what the cost would be for peonies…

On a side note, the season for peonies start somewhere in April and typically lasts through May and June. Luckily for us, our florist managed to obtain peonies for our wedding in early July. So if you want a specific type of flower for your wedding, you’re going to need to think ahead when choosing your wedding date. If not #surefail.

If you don’t wish to spend so much on flowers, choose flowers that are easier to grow and are available throughout the year. Some options include:

  • baby’s breath
  • carnations
  • daisies, and
  • roses (not all species)

Speak to your florist – they’ll have a better idea as to what’s in season and what’s not.

Size And Style Of Your Wedding

The number of flowers needed to decorate a room where you exchange your vows in an intimate setting, as compared to a sprawling ballroom with a 300-name guestlist, would definitely affect the cost of your wedding floral decorations.

And if you’re going for a more bohemian theme and opt for a wilder bridal bouquet with lesser blooms, then it’ll probably cost lesser than a full-on bouquet with a dozen David Austin roses and the works.

Basically, the bigger your venue and the more elaborate your wedding floral decorations, the more flowers and help your florist will need to properly create your dream wedding.

A floral arch like this doesn’t just grow overnight, you know:

Source: @floralmagic_ | Instagram

If you want to include other floral decorations or structures like floral walls, garlands, centrepieces, and pew decorations at your wedding venue, then your florists will also need to include delivery, manpower, setup, and teardown costs in their quotation.

This means that your wedding budget will need to include these miscellaneous costs too.

How To Budget For Wedding Flowers

Even though fresh flowers can be expensive, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your dream wedding should cost you and your partner a kidney.

Pictured above: a viable option to pay for wedding costs

Here’s how I did it for my wedding.

Understand What Kind Of Look And Feel You’re Going For

It’s highly encouraged that you create a mood board with pictures of wedding floral decorations that you like.

In fact, doing so will make it easier for your florist to advise you on what can or cannot be done if they understand what kind of aesthetic you’re going for.

And unless you really REALLY want a specific type of flower, trust and give your florist the creative space to determine what kind of flowers can be used to create the look that you want.

Set A Realistic Budget

Talk to a few florists who you like – and who have created weddings that suit your aesthetic – and ask for quotations.

Note: keep in mind that it’s unfair to compare florists based on price because a smaller, independent florist might have to deal with higher costs, as compared to a larger chain which has the advantage of economies of scale.

Once you get an idea of what your dream wedding floral decorations will cost, you’ll be able to set a more realistic budget.

Go back to the florist who you are most comfortable with, or who shares the same enthusiasm as you in creating your perfect wedding day, to finalise your choices.

Prioritise

If the bloom that you like is rare and expensive, like peonies, consider featuring it in just your bridal bouquet or maybe only for the centrepieces at the VIP table.

Then, talk to your florist to seek cheaper and similar-looking flowers to decorate the other elements of your wedding.

Repurpose Your Flowers

If you want your bridesmaids to carry posies during the solemnisation or for your morning photoshoot, you can repurpose the flowers for your reception table once they have served their purpose.

This would minimise the number of flowers needed, and help to keep your costs low.

Of course, not all flowers can be reused, so talk to your florist to see how you can best do this!

Another way you can repurpose flowers is also to do what my florist suggested. This was the floral arch that we had for our solemnisation in the morning:

Pictured above: floral arch created by Bloomen.co

Once we were done, we had it moved down and placed at the beginning of the aisle in the ballroom.

This way, everyone would get to see it again when we marched into the ballroom.

Wedding Florist Rates In Singapore

Here’s a list of wedding florists and their rates which I compiled while searching for the best one for my sister.

The prices listed are merely estimates given through enquiring with the vendors or consulting their rate cards.

You should also keep in mind that there’s a myriad of factors which will affect how much you’ll ultimately spend on flowers for your wedding.
