Featuring the latest Google Tensor G2 processing chip, and a bunch of other upgrades over the Google Pixel 6 lineup, Google’s Pixel 7 lineup seems to be pretty promising. Especially when you consider the fact that it has the same launch price as the Pixel 6!

Here’s what you need to know.

TL;DR: Google Pixel 7 Release – Base vs Pro Model

Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), Google has kept the Pixel 7 lineup prices the same as last year’s Pixel 6 launch prices despite inflation. But of course, with an increasingly competitive smartphone market, increasing the prices of their phones could impact their already small market share, especially when the iPhone 14 has also kept launch prices steady.

This time around, Google has provided us with more storage options and three colour variations. However, we are only limited to Obsidian (Black) for 256 GB models.

Across the board, there have been minor upgrades from last year’s model. But perhaps the biggest standout here is Google’s latest Tensor G2 chip. According to Google, it is faster and more efficient with better machine learning capabilities.

This means that we’ll be getting better voice-to-text capabilities, photo editing with the new Photo Unblur feature, and making your calls sound clearer.

When it comes to charging, Google has finally stepped up its game with claims of juicing up a Pixel 7 from 0% – 50% in just 30 minutes. That is if you buy the 30W charger that is sold separately. Seriously. Why is selling charging bricks separately a thing now?

On top of selling chargers separately to “save the Earth”, the metal enclosures of both models are made of 100% recycled aluminium, which reduces carbon footprint by up to 35%.

Speaking of metals, you’ll also notice that the camera bar is now made mostly of metal instead of glass on the Pixel 6, a step up in my opinion for durability and looks.

Thankfully, we are now blessed to receive the full lineup as one of the first-wave countries. Remember the time when Google didn’t even consider us for the Pixel 5?

You can now pre-order the Pixel 7 on the official Google Store as well as on sites like Amazon Singapore, Courts Online, Challenger Online, and Shopee.

The lineup will be made available online and in physical stores from 13th October 2022.

As a bonus, any purchase of the Pixel 7 models comes with a S$250 coupon for your next purchase on the Google store.

Sweet!

Is the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro Worth it?

Source: Google

The Google Pixel 7 lineup is a strong contender to other flagship phones like the Samsung S22. It is essentially a great refinement of the Google Pixel 6 with added features.

However, do note that with a cheaper price tag comes only three years’ worth of software updates and five years of security patches from Google.

If you are already on the Pixel 6, I’d give this one a miss. But if you are on the Pixel 5 or earlier, the Google Pixel 7 is a worthy upgrade.

That said, if your phone is still serving you well, take some time to consider if you really need a new phone before making an impulse purchase decision.
