Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus New Features

This year’s release is rather intriguing as it introduces the new iPhone 15, which shares many similarities with the iPhone 14 Pro. Essentially, Apple aims to bring some of the high-end Pro features to a broader audience while maintaining the same price point as the iPhone 14 models.

The key enhancements in the new iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, drawn from the previous Pro models, include:

• A Dynamic Island display
• The powerful A16 Bionic processor used in the iPhone 14 Pro
• A 48MP primary camera, although the iPhone 15 still features a dual-camera setup
• Support for pixel binning technology, allowing for high-quality 24MP photos from 48MP shots
• A 2x software-based Telephoto zoom, achieved through computational photography using the 48MP image
• Next-generation portrait photography capabilities
• An aluminium build with a glass back infused with colour
• 2nd-generation Ultra-wideband UWB connectivity for improved location tracking and near-field communications (NFC)
• Support for the new Qi2 wireless charging standard, along with MagSafe wireless charging
• A transition to USB-C, bidding farewell to the Lightning connector.

The biggest feature change, in my opinion, is that Apple has abandoned the Lightning connector and changed it to USB C.

This was the first time since 2012 that the company had replaced the connector of its iPhone series due to pressure from the European Union (EU) which mandated that all portable electronics sport a universal connector by the end of 2024 to reduce e-waste and simplify life for consumers.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max New Features

Those with bigger wallets might be looking at the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max:

Apple has dedicated its efforts to enhancing the iPhone 15 Pro series user experience and capability through cutting-edge processors. This year’s release introduces the all-new Apple A17 Pro chipset, which marks a significant milestone as the first consumer product to adopt the advanced 3 nanometre manufacturing process. This innovation allows for a higher transistor density, resulting in a performance boost and improved energy efficiency compared to its predecessors.

Here are the key features of the iPhone 15 Pro that distinguish it from the non-Pro model:

• Constructed with aerospace-grade Titanium and a textured matte glass back.
• It is powered by the A17 Pro processor, featuring a potent new GPU and a neural processing engine.
• Equipped with USB-C connectivity supporting USB 3 transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps.
• Introduces an Action button, which replaces the traditional Silent switch.
• Retains ProMotion and Always-on Display technology, consistent with previous Pro-grade models.

Instead, you’ll probably look at an older, discounted iPhone 14. These models are now being sold at a discounted price, with the standard iPhone 14 now starting for $1,149, and the Plus edition is available starting from $1,299:

However, you’ll need to consider that the main iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models include some of the notable features from the iPhone 14 Pro, such as the powerful A16 processor, a 48MP main camera, and the Dynamic Display, this year’s iPhone 15 lineup offers significantly better value compared to last year’s iPhone 14 models.
